Project Summary
Pro Steel Engineering was appointed to deliver the steelwork for Heathrow Airport’s new Virtual Contingency Facility (VCF), part of the airport’s Tower Transformation programme. The project required more than 100 tonnes of fabricated steel and had to be completed with minimal disruption to one of the world’s busiest airports, which handles over 200,000 passengers a day.




The Challenge
Heathrow needed a replacement contingency facility capable of supporting up to 1,000 daily air traffic movements (ATMs), with the capacity to safeguard future increases to 1,350 ATMs per day. The challenge was to deliver the steelwork within a live operational airport environment, where safety and disruption control are critical.
Our Solution
Pro Steel Engineering fabricated and delivered over 100 tonnes of structural steelwork from our South Wales facility. Our project management and site services teams ensured installation was carried out safely and efficiently, coordinating closely with contractors and airport operators to minimise impact on passenger operations.
